Among the parameters that can be controlled is greenhouse humidity. Whether through design or technology, it is possible to maintain a constant and specific humidity<\/p>\n

One of the greatest benefits offered by greenhouses is the ability to create conditions that differ from those provided by the outdoor climate, allowing specific temperature and humidity levels to be maintained while protecting crops against pests and adverse weather conditions.<\/p>\n

Why is it important to control humidity levels in the greenhouse?<\/h5>\n

Although the general optimum range is between 50% and 80%, each crop has its own optimum, minimum, and maximum humidity levels, which must be carefully monitored and controlled in order to maintain plant health and promote rapid growth.<\/p>\n

Diferent studies like “Reducing Humidity in the Greenhouse<\/a>” from Massachusetts University shows that maintaining humidity below the optimum range can cause irregular plant growth, especially during the early stages of development. On the other hand, maintaining humidity above the optimum level can lead to fungal diseases or even rot.<\/p>\n

What does humidity have to do with crop selection?<\/h5>\n

As the optimum humidity range varies from one crop to another, some crops can be grown together, while others do not share a compatible optimum range and therefore should not be cultivated together.<\/p>\n

For example, growing tomatoes and eggplants in the same greenhouse is possible because their humidity ranges are almost identical. However, growing tomatoes and cucumbers in the same greenhouse will result in one of the two crops not having the conditions required for proper growth.<\/p>\n
